Road washes out, campers stranded at Clyde Lake

CLYDE, Texas - UPDATE: TxDOT has temporarily fixed the stretch of FM 3217 leading to Clyde Lake. The road washed out overnight, stranding eight campers. PREVIOUS STORY Eight campers are stranded at the Clyde Lake campgrounds because FM 3217 washed out during last night's heavy rains. David McCarty says the campers all sustained damage to their vehicles and trailers from golf ball sized hail. TxDOT hopes to have a temporary repair in place by 4 p.m., according to McCarty. That will allow the campers to leave. But the temporary repair could wash out with any more rain. McCarty says the lake is currently four feet over the spillway. The boat docks and a couple of picnic tables are under water. ORIGINAL STORY Clyde police are asking people to avoid going to Clyde Lake.

Part of FM 3217, the only public road to the lake, has washed out and the road is closed.

Texas Department of Transportation workers are handling repairs.

Until then, there is no public access to or from the lake which means Memorial Day campers are currently stranded.
