Scam Alert: Cross Plains PD warning of utility bill scam
CROSS PLAINS, Texas - Police in Cross Plains want to warn you about a scam. Right now, only businesses have been targeted. But they said everyone "needs to be aware." Someone is calling businesses claiming to be Atmos Energy. The caller claims the check that the business mailed for their utility bill was damaged. In order to keep the power on, the business is told they must send money right away.
Cross Plains PD said "please DO NOT send them any money and call the authorities immediately. THIS IS A SCAM."
KTXS reached out to Atmos about the scam. They said " anytime Atmos Energy places a call to a customer, we always verify all account information before proceeding to take any payment."
