Disturbance prompts response at Brownwood juvenile correctional facility

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Several Brown County law enforcement agencies responded to a "significant disturbance" at a juvenile correctional facility over the weekend.

An incident occurred between 6 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Ron Johnson State Juvenile Correctional Complex, according to a spokesman for the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.

"It was a significant disturbance handled very quickly," TJJD spokesman Jim Hurley said Monday. "Our staff performed exceptionally well and it didn't require any intervention from outside agencies."

Hurley said a few kids posted as they were going to fight near the cafeteria. Only one inmate required medical attention.

Hurley said the only reason this became an issue was because outside law enforcement agencies tried getting involved.
