Southwest Drive& South Clack intersection closed for 4 weeks
ABILENE, Texas - TxDOT announced the closure of Southwest Drive and South Clack intersection on Friday. The closure began on Saturday and it's scheduled to be closed four weeks. This project is expected to be completed early November. This $2.3 million construction project is to replace the current pavement in the intersection, underpass, and turnarounds with a durable, long-lasting concrete surface. The construction schedule is set during daytime hours, including Saturdays. TxDOT recommends drivers traveling through this area must detour and should allow extra time for their commute. A driver in the area Jack Franklin said he wants to see construction crews working on the project even more. "I think they ought to do this 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to get this stuff done," Franklin said. Abilene resident, Ashley Scott, said they were given enough notice about the construction, so the closure isn't an issue for them. "I think it's a positive thing to have new roads and that's great for the area because it's very heavily populated traffic area," Scott said, "so that'll be good and they're fixing it so that's good." Scott said she hopes this project will be completed soon, before the holiday season begins. Franklin also said the construction doesn't affect his commute to work, but he's hopeful this project will be worth it when it's done. "Maybe when it's all over with it'll be worth it," Franklin said. "You have to give-and-take a little bit." TxDOT encourages drivers to be watchful for workers and equipment when they travel through the area.
