James Carson, who spent 20 years in the U.S. Army before becoming a teacher, died April 14 when his vehicle and an 18-wheeler collided on I-20 about 25 miles west of Pecos.

Following his death, the Snyder ISD Superintendent's office released a statement offering sympathy to Carson's family.

Snyder High School created a scholarship fund in Carson's honor. Donations can be made at the school's main office.

Snyder ISD officials shared a link of a video showing students gathered near a band as it played "Taps."
