ABILENE, Texas - If you want to stock up on emergency supplies for a big discount you still have some time.

The 2017 Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday ends at midnight Monday.

All kinds of equipment and supplies are eligible from first-aid kits to portable generators.

While the State of Texas has had a back-to-school sales tax holiday for years, this tax-free weekend for emergency supplies is new.

State Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa , who represents State District 20, created the tax-free weekend.

"The tax-free weekend is an incentive for Texans to better protect their lives and property during and after a potential weather emergency," Hinojosa said.
