ABILENE, Texas - We still have rain chances in the forecast for the next few days but the end of this long event is in sight.

We are still forecasting an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain for the area through at least Saturday. Some of this could fall in a short period of time which means flash flooding is still likely.

Please be vigilant and avoid any flooded roadway that you come across. It only takes a few inches of water to stall out a vehicle. It only takes 12 inches of moving water to carry a car off and up to 24 inches for larger vehicles.

For today, on and off thundershowers are still possible for today. We should remain under mostly cloudy skies but a peak of sunshine cannot be ruled out. Temperatures will warm back into the upper 70s. Winds will be light out of the north-northeast at 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight, we have a continued chance for isolated thundershowers. Rainfall could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy skies are expected with a low back in the 60s. Winds will remain light and variable.

Once we get to Friday, we should have another phase of on and off shower chances. Some rainfall could be heavy at times which continues the danger for flash flooding.

The main weather system that has driven this multi day rainfall event will finally fall erode enough to reduce chances for showers starting Saturday morning. The main rain chances should be south of I-20.

By Saturday afternoon, we should begin to see more sunshine and less cloud cover from north to south as a new front pushes the rest of the system into deep south Texas.

Look for drier weather by Sunday with mostly sunny skies and mid-80s.

We will continue with no rain chances in the forecast for the start of next week with upper 80s and low 90s for high temperatures. Weather models are indicating this pattern to remain through at least the end of next week.
