Tracking a drier and sunnier Wednesday
ABILENE, Texas - The ridge off to the west will begin rebuilding back into Texas today providing more sunshine and warmer weather.
For today, some high cloud cover may begin the day due to storms that died out over the Panhandle during the early morning hours. However, full sunshine should be present by noon. Temperatures will peak in the middle 90s with east-southeast winds at 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight, clear skies are forecast with lows in the lower 70s. Winds will shift and become more south-southeasterly at 5 to 15 mph.
Sunny skies return for Thursday and Friday with temperatures warming into the upper 90s.
For the holiday weekend, be prepared for hot and humid weather. We should maintain dry conditions. However, I cannot rule out a pop-up thunderstorm on Sunday or Monday afternoon for areas west of an Aspermont to Sweetwater line.
This weekend, heat will be the bigger theme to this story. Upper 90s to lower 100s are forecast to be reached during the afternoon. Heat index values could reach as high as 105 degrees.
Low 100s are also forecast through at least the middle of next week.
