ABILENE, Texas - It's official! Happy first day of summer! Although, we have been feeling the likeness of summer since last week, astronomical summer begins today and the forecast for the first full week of summer fits with the season.

For today, look for mostly sunny skies with temperatures warming only to the lower 90s this afternoon. There will be some humidity in place so heat index values will reach the mid to upper 90s but stay below the century mark. Winds will be south-southeasterly at 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight, we maintain mostly clears skies with overnight lows dropping to the lower 70s. Winds will shift from the southeast to the southwest at 5 to 10 mph.

Look for more sunshine and fewer clouds in the sky on Tuesday. Highs should return to the lower 90s.

As we reach the middle of the week, the strong upper level ridge of high pressure will center itself over the Lone Star State. This will put us under full sunshine with temps warming to the middle 90s through the rest of the work week.

As we approach next weekend, some model guidance is suggesting that a weak upper level low may try to round the southern edge of the ridge of high pressure over Texas. If this happens, we could see a slight chance for a shower Sunday.

For now, consistency has not been high with this particular pattern and will need to be watched. The forecast will continue to remain rain-free through the end of next weekend.
