Tracking Tuesday thundershower chances
ABILENE, Texas - A weak boundary may help kick start some showers and thundershowers across West-Central Texas today.
For today, look for partly sunny skies with thundershowers possible in the Big Country over the morning and early noon hours as a weak boundary pushes through from the east. During the afternoon hours, the thundershower chances should move to the Heartland and Concho Valley areas with drier weather setting up in the Big Country. Rainfall totals look to measure less than a half of an inch. Lightning and thunder will also be possible. Temperatures will warm to the lower 90s with winds shifting from the southwest to northeast at 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight, skies should become mostly clear with overnight lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Winds will be light and variable.
A settled weather pattern becomes realized on Wednesday as the ridge of high pressure to the west expands across Texas. This will provide sunny skies to our area from Wednesday to Saturday. Mostly sunny skies return for Sunday and Monday.
Temperatures will also be getting hot. We return to the mid-90s by Thursday with upper 90s and possibly low 100s for the holiday weekend.
One thing we are watching closely is a very weak disturbance that is being picked up by weather guidance for Sunday and Monday. At this time, we are too far out to build confidence but a pop-up afternoon shower could be possible in the Big Country. However, we have kept the forecast dry for now.
