2 Big Country coaches named to Texas Football's 'Most Successful' list
ABILENE, TX - There's a lot of talented football coaches in the state of Texas and on Thursday, Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine released its list of the most successful football coaches in the state.
And it wouldn't be right if at least one Big Country coach made the list - but in fact, two names made the cut.
Focusing on active coaches records through the end of the 2016 season, the rankings take a look at total career wins. Just look past the top five to find our Big Country representatives.
In 6 th , Albany's Denny Faith. The Lions, who are a perennial favorite, made back-to back state runs in 2014 and 2015. But in his career, Faith has amassed a record of 277-94. And those wins are sure to keep stacking up.
And right behind Faith in 7 th , Dave Campbell's recognized Wylie's Hugh Sandifer. The state runner up this year has the same number of wins (277), but 105 losses to his name. Also expect many more "W's" to come, with the program getting stronger each year.
The number one active coach in the state in terms of wins, according to Texas Football Magazine, is Phil Danaher, the head of 5A Corpus Christi Calallen, with 432 wins and counting.
The rankings also included listing successful coaches by winning percentage -- that honor of top dog going to Richland Springs' Jerry Burkhart whose winning percentage is 93% or a record of 188-14.
