War Hawks close spring football with emphasis on effort in practice

ABILENE, TX - The McMurry University football team has been hitting the gridiron over the past month and Monday night, they finished their spring football practices for the 2017 preseason.

There's been a lot of learning and a lot of changes to the program this offseason. A new offensive coordinator for the program alongside Lance Hinson, means putting in a new offense -- one that's more up-tempo.

The War Hawks also need a new quarterback, and the race for that starting job is still going on among a few candidates.

But as the offseason break begins before fall camp, McMurry really honed in on changing the *way* they practice in an effort to hopefully change the way they play this fall.

"We practice hard enough now we don't have to condition at the end of practice," said head coach Lance Hinson. "Our guys are already spent by the end of practice. We're trying to be able to up-tempo some defenses. We're trying to catch them off guard."

"You're just flying around," added linebacker Jake Ferguson. "I guess you're not having a lot of wasted time. Everything's on the clock over there. Getting a grind in, 24/7."
