Wildcats open spring practice in preparation for tough schedule
ABILENE, TX - Friday marked the opening day for ACU baseball team practice as head coach Britt Bonneau and his squad prepare to embark on one of the toughest schedules in program history.
Bonneau enters his 21 st season at the helm as the Wildcats -- headlined by seniors Aaron Draper and Russell Crippen, will face a 56-game slate of opponents that finished a combined 163 games over .500 in 2016.
"Every time we play any big teams it's fun," said Draper before practice on Friday. "We've never played a Big 10 team before so obviously that's going to be a new, cool experience."
It's a daunting schedule that features three separate conference champions, five opponents that reached an NCAA regional, and one College World Series team (TCU).
This season, ACU also wraps-up its final year of transition to Division I this season, and know this schedule is an important spring board into full Division I status.
"What that schedule has done for us over the last three years and this year is really get our mind and our preparation for each game and has taught us how to do that," said head coach Britt Bonneau. "So we look forward to the schedule this year, and the one's to come."
The Wildcats begin the 2017 season at home February 17 th against Michigan State.
