Wilner's Weekly Watch highlights Crosstown, win-less showdown in week 3

ABILENE, Texas - On Friday, week 3 of the high school football season kicks-off as area teams being to separate themselves as contenders, or those hoping for a turnaround in the early season. This week, " Wilner ' s Weekly Watch " highlights a few match-ups worthy of keeping an eye on.

Cross Plains (2-0) vs. De Leon (2-0):

Cross Plains on the road at the Bearcats of De Leon should be a dandy. Both teams enter the contest 2-0 to start the season off big wins last week, but this will most certainly test the Buffaloes the most so far in 2017. De Leon's program is ranked in the top 20 for the AP Texas state rankings, with duo Anthony Rangel and Kevin Yeager. They ' ll go up against a Buffalo defense that has already forced 4 turnovers in the first 2 weeks. Expect neither team to lay down easily.

Winters (0-2) vs. Bangs (0-2) Game 2 of my match-ups to watch is on two programs searching for their first win of the season, Winters and Bangs. Boy it ' s been a struggle these last couple of seasons for both schools, but both do match-up well against one another and could prove a momentum swing for whomever comes out on top. The Blizzards will hope to freeze Bangs ' offense led by explosive playmaker Colton Brewer, in this almost " toilet bowl " game between two teams desperate for a rebound.

Abilene High (0-2) vs. Cooper (2-0 - " Crosstown Showdown "

But you can't not pay attention to the hottest rivalry in week 3, the crosstown showdown at Shotwell. For three-straight seasons, Abilene High has reigned king of the Key City, but if Cooper is going to end that streak, this just may be the year.

Cooper enters hot, 2-0 on the year and off an upset over ranked Grapevine. They also bring in a ton more experience, with a heavy junior/senior class. They should give the Eagles a big challenge, as the Warbirds come in on the heels of two-straight losses and some struggles piecing together a complete game. But you know this week, anything can happen, and expect to see the kitchen sink thrown for AHS as they try to turn the tides of their season. So no matter which side you ' re on, hope you at home are ready for a big Friday night .
