ABILENE, Texas -- Police are "actively searching" for a 21-year-old man who allegedly shot his mother in the head earlier today at Abilene North Apartments in north Abilene.

The suspect has been identified as Calvin Dunn Jr.

Considered armed and dangerous, Dunn is accused of shooting his mother, 42-year-old Rene Crosby, during an altercation at the apartment complex on North Willis.

Police say Crosby is in critical condition at Hendrick Medical Center.


Friend of shot Abilene mother expresses sadness -}

Police unsuccessfully attempted to locate Dunn at a residence in the 2000 block of Park Street in north Abilene, blocking off streets in that area while they searched.

Sgt. Lynn Beard said police are continuing to "follow up on leads" as the search continues.

Police are asking anyone with information on Dunn's whereabouts to call 911.

Police are investigating a shooting at Abilene North Apartments on North Willis Street in north Abilene.

Police say a black female was shot about 10 a.m. Friday and taken to Hendrick Medical Center.

Police are gathering information from those at the scene, but information on what transpired before the shooting wasn't immediately available.

No arrest had been made as of 10:30 a.m.
