Woodson ISD names new interim superintendent after abrupt resignation

WOODSON, Texas - Woodson ISD has a new interim superintendent.

Former Woodson ISD Superintendent Gordon Thomas resigned Friday, and though district officials wouldn't say why Thomas quit, Danny Bellah was appointed interim superintendent at a special-called meeting Monday night.

But the board also had to swear in a new member remotely. Before Bellah could be appointed as interim superintendent, Brady Miller resigned to prevent any nepotism.

The school district, with about 160 students in Throckmorton County between Throckmorton and Breckenridge, was without a superintendent over the weekend after Thomas resigned Friday.

A former school board member told KTXS Thomas called a mandatory meeting at the end of the school day Friday to announce he was resigning, effective immediately. He did not give the staff a reason.

That former board member estimated Thomas had been with the district for more than 20 years.

Thomas had been superintendent since 2011. He was also the girls basketball and track coach.

The school principal did not want to comment or issue a statement about Thomas's resignation on the advice of the district's attorney.

We also reached out to every member of the school board. They did not get back with us for comment.
