2 taken to hospital after crash on Abilene freeway
ABILENE, Texas - Traffic on southbound Winters Freeway in Abilene was brought to a halt Sunday afternoon after a car rear-ended another vehicle.
The crash happened around 4:30 p.m., police at the scene said. A car had stopped in the road to pick up a chair on the south side of an overpass near South 7th Street. A Chevrolet Tahoe stopped to avoid the car, but a sedan behind it could not stop in time and hit the Tahoe.
The driver of the sedan, a female in her mid-30s, was taken to Hendrick Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. A female in the Tahoe was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Traffic had to be diverted off of the freeway to the access road while emergency crews cleared the scene. The highway was reopened to traffic Sunday evening.
It is unknown if the driver of the sedan was cited by police.
