Abilene council members take oath of office, playground approved


ABILENE, Texas - Abilene City Council members Kyle McAlister and Steve Savage were sworn into office at Thursday's city council meeting.

McAlister, the incumbent Place 5 councilman, and Savage, the incumbent Place 6 councilman, recaptured their seats during the May 7 city election.

After they were sworn in, the council approved a number of items, including:

*- The city taking over themaintenance of a new playground at the Alameda Community Center.

*- Naming Dr. Peter Norton as the city's first Infection Control Officer.

*- Permitting an oil and gas company to drill at a site off of Vogel.

*- The city taking over the build out of studio space inside the new south side library at the Mall of Abilene. Grant money will be used to do the work.

The studio will be used by the city's cable access channel.
