ABILENE, Texas - About three-and-a-half acres of land in Abilene could be given to the city for one of its fire stations.

That is, if the deal is approved by the Abilene School Board.

Abilene ISD is considering donating the land behind the Jefferson Center at 1741 South 14 th Street to the city to be used for Fire Station No. 3 based on the recommendation by the school's administration.

The fire station is currently located at 2201 South 19 th Street, about five blocks away from the proposed location.

School board trustees will decide on the donation next week. Abilene Fire Department Chief Larry Bell said if it's approved, construction on the new station would likely begin in 2017.
