Abilene man loses nearly $3,000 in Craigslist scam
ABILENE, Texas - Abilene police say a man is out $2,800 after he was scammed on Craigslist.
According to the incident report obtained by KTXS, the 59-year-old victim responded to a Craigslist ad about a travel trailer for sale.
The man wired $2,800 to the seller. After doing so, the seller asked for an additional $2,500 for "non-refundable shipping insurance."
Whether or not the travel trailer actually exists or is even for sale is unknown.
Craigslist recommends that you only deal with people you can meet in person. It says following "this one rule will help you avoid 99% of scams."
