Abilene organizations holding weekend Juneteenth celebration
ABILENE, Texas - A few Abilene organizations are teaming up to help the community celebrate Juneteenth.
The Abilene Black Chamber of Commerce, I-Can and the Dyess African American Heritage Committee are hosting the event at the Abilene Civic Center on Saturday.
Admission is free.
The opening ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. with free food at noon.
Activities will be the following:
Car show and games 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Health fair 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Gospel Fest 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.
