Abilene teachers receive grants to help with supplies
ABILENE, Texas - The Abilene Education Foundation began giving teachers grants to help pay for supplies and special projects Thursday.
KTXS caught up with the prize parade at Ortiz Elementary. The group went to roughly half the schools in Abilene ISD Thursday and will continue Friday.
For a kindergarten teacher like Andrea Smith, she knows just what do with a thousand dollars.
"I was really wanting some maps, and globes, and compasses and things to teach cardinal directions with" said Smith. "I taught third [grade] and I thought, I really want to bring this into Kindergarten."
The Abilene Education Foundation is a community group that was organized to support AISD.
