ACU welcomes new track and field coach back "home"
ABILENE, TX - On May 2 nd , the ACU Wildcats tabbed Liberty University associate head coach Lance Bingham to lead one of the country's most successful track and field programs.
Thursday, he finally got to work in Abilene, and is ready to hit the ground running.
Inside the team room of the new track and field facility, Bingham was welcomed by staff, students, and ACU Director of Athletics Lee De Leon. Bingham is ACU's 19th head coach of a program that has won more team national titles (54 at NCAA DI level) than any other single track and field program in intercollegiate athletics history. He's also from just outside of Lubbock, making his transition to the role even more special.
"I love the fact that, he told me a story that he called his mom to tell her, and she got emotional just thinking about having him and his family back here," said De Leon on Thurday. "He's the right guy to lead this program moving forward and take us to the next level."
For Bingham, the "homecoming" is also paired with a job he's thought about for years, saying "It's great to be back in this environment. The people here at ACU are so special, and it's real similar to where I grew up. And that's West Texas."
