After outages affecting 1600 in north Abilene, power returns

ABILENE, Texas - UPDATE:

According to the AEP website, power has been returned to customers in north Abilene.

The outage lasted a little over an hour for most customers.

About 1600 people were affected.

Power was lost due to a substation failure, which happened when a transformer tripped. The cause of the transformer malfunction is unknown at this time.

All affected customers had their power restored at 8:30.

A power outage in north Abilene left more than 1,600 people in the dark Friday night.

According to American Electric Power the outage was in north Abilene in the 79601 zip code, affecting approximately 1,670 residences and businesses around 6 p.m on Friday.

Greg Blair with AEP told KTXS that the substation that services Abilene has gone offline.

Crews are still working to determine the cause but hope to have the problem resolved quickly.

Blair estimated that if no unexpected problems were found the power could be restored by 8 p.m.
