City of Abilene refutes allegations of improper street work
ABILENE, Texas - The city of Abilene responded to allegations of fraud Friday.
Former City Engineer Chad Carter went in front of the Abilene City Council Tuesday and said the city violated the Texas Engineering Practice Act.
According to Carter, the city didn't employ a licensed engineer for certain road projects.
Michael Rice, the Director of Public Works for Abilene, refuted that claim.
"If the project is going to be more than $20,000 and be a public works project it must be designed and sealed by a licensed engineer by the State of Texas," Rice said. "They also have to supervise the construction, so what we are doing in Abilene is exactly that."
Rice said Friday that to his knowledge the city has employed the use of a licensed engineer for every project requiring one.
