Donor pledges to match $100,000 for HSU orchestra program fund
ABILENE, Texas - The fundraising goal to save the Hardin-Simmons University orchestra program is getting a little bit of help for a month.
According to the university, an anonymous source pledged $100,000 to match donations made to the program fund dollar-for-dollar from Friday until the end of June.
The university said earlier in May the orchestra program would be shut down unless $3.1 million was raised by the end of the year.
The decision to potentially phase out the program due to financial reasons was met by a large community response, which prompted HSU President Dr. Lanny Hall to provide the opportunity to raise the funds.
