SWEETWATER, Texas - The city of Sweetwater has a new city manager.

The Sweetwater City Commission on Tuesday approved the appointment of David A. Vela to the city's top administrative position.

A former assistant, deputy and interim city manager for the city of Abilene, Vela will officially start Monday in Sweetwater.

In February, Vela resigned -- citing personal family reasons -- as city manager for the city of Alice after only a few months on the job.

He had accepted the Alice job in October 2015, started in late November 2015 and announced his resignation in February 2016, according to The Alice Echo News-Journal.

He stepped down from his city of Abilene position in November 2015.

Vela will succeed Eddie Brown, who retired earlier this year. He will become only the third Sweetwater city manager since 1985.
