ABILENE, Texas - The Junior League of Abilene celebrated 60 years of serving the community with another day of giving back Tuesday.

The volunteer organization invited people to a free day at the Abilene Zoo.

More than a hundred people showed up to the event and took in the sights while also talking with volunteers who have dedicated their time to making the city a better place.

"[We] want them to recognize that the volunteers in this community completely help this community move forward, to have new projects and new answers to problems," said Junior League of Abilene President Katie Browning.

In addition to partnering with community events like the Children's Arts and Literacy Festival, the Junior League of Abilene has multiple volunteer projects and services for the community, including Backpacks for Kids and the Hendrick League House.
