Low enrollment causes HSU budget concerns

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons University is offering faculty early retirement incentives to combat the cost of a recent drop in enrollment.

HSU President Lanny Hall said the incentives are only for eligible faculty. He could not comment on what eligibility requirements they had to meet or the terms of the incentive package.

HSU is experiencing a budget shortfall due to a near 10 percent drop in enrollment numbers from 2013 to 2014.

Dr. Hall said HSU's decline in enrollment may partly be because of an enrollment software malfunction, which he said they've already addressed.

Hall said this is the first of several steps the university is taking to reign in the budget. Hall said there will be no layoffs.
