Lubbock Democrat enters race for 19th Congressional District
ABILENE, Texas - A Lubbock Democrat stopped in Abilene Wednesday evening to throw his hat in the ring for Texas' 19th congressional district. Texas Tech Associate Professor Miguel Levario made the announcement at Miguel's Tex-Mex Cafe. He will be running against current U.S. Rep. Jodey Arrington, who is a Republican. A Democrat hasn't held the District 19 seat in more than 30 years. Kent Hance, a former Texas Tech chancellor, held it from 1979 to 1985. However, Levario says it is time for a change, and that his background, among many other things, have prepared him for a place in Congress. "I think what qualifies me is my passion, my leadership, and my knowledge of certain issues regarding immigration and border security, but also agriculture and education ," Levario told KTXS. Levario is a graduate from the University of Notre Dame, Stanford University, and the University of Texas in Austin. He and his family currently live in Lubbock.
