Marine stops in Abilene on cross-country walk for veterans

ABILENE, Texas - A man from the Dallas area is going the distance to honor veterans and first responders.

Larry Hinkle, who is a former Marine, passed through Abilene on Monday on his way from Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina to Camp Pendleton in San Diego.

He says he is taking the 2,644-mile trip to bring awareness to the needs of veterans and first responders seeking help.

It is a mission Hinkle takes personally, after he says he waited nine and a half years before he was approved for disability following his retirement from the Marine Corps.
