Police identify 99-year-old woman killed in north Abilene crash

ABILENE, Texas - Police have identified the 99-year-old Abilene woman who died Friday as a result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Ambler Avenue and Clinton Street.

Killed in the crash was Gladys Sanders, who was pronounced dead at Hendrick Medical Center, Abilene Police Department spokesman Rick Tomlin said in an email late Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred just before 8:30 a.m.

According to Abilene police, a silver Hyundai -- with a male driver and Sanders as the passenger -- was traveling west on Ambler in the inside lane when a blue Ford vehicle, which had been stopped at a Clinton Street stop sign, pulled into the intersection.

The Ford struck the Hyundai on the passenger-side door. The Hyundai then crossed oncoming lanes of traffic and hit a tree.

Sanders wasn't wearing a seat belt, police said.
