Taylor Co. law enforcement increasing patrols through July 4 holiday

ABILENE, Texas - The Taylor County Sheriff's Office and Abilene Police Department will be increasing law enforcement presence in the county in advance of the July 4 holiday.

Deputies and officers will be working extra duty starting June 24 through July 5 to look for speeders and people driving under the influence, according to a news release from APD.

Abilene police reported that 19 people have died in alcohol-related crashes over the past five years.

The initiative is funded by a grant through the Texas Department of Transportation.
