Texas game wardens prepare for busy 4th of July weekend
ABILENE, Texas - Texas game wardens will have an increased presence at area lakes over the 4th of July weekend.
"This is our busiest holiday," game warden Roy Johnson said. "And with the high lake levels the summer we're expecting a huge turnout."
Johnson said they'll be checking for fishing licenses, life vests and those who might possibly be drinking behind the wheel.
There haven't been an citations for drinking and boating at Lake Fort Phantom this year, but Johnson said they're not afraid to give them out.
"If there is going to be any alcohol on the boat they need a designated driver," Johnson said. "Don't let that person drink alcohol because if we do catch them and they're intoxicated they can go to jail."
Citations from the game wardens can rang from $25 to $500.
