UCC dedicates new community park to beloved teacher
ABILENE, Texas —
The University Church of Christ dedicated a community playground to a teacher who changed the lives of so many students over the years Sunday morning.
The playground, which is named "Patty's Place", is dedicated to Patty Cox, a former UCC and Abilene ISD teacher who spent her life teaching children.
The park is a part of the UCC's effort to reach out to the community and provide a safe place for families to play at and enjoy.
KTXS News spoke with the University Church of Christ's Communications Minister, Joey Roberts, who told us why this project is so important to him, the church and the community at large.
"We wanted to have an open area that people come to have a picnic, play any time of day, it's open from 8 (a.m.) to dusk and to be excited about having an opportunity for people to come and have a place to play," said Roberts.
Patty Cox passed away in January 2016.
