ABILENE, Texas - The uncle of a woman accused of killing her newborn pleaded guilty to failure to register as a sex offender Thursday in a Taylor County courtroom.

Christopher Craker, 32, was sentenced to five years in prison.

He allegedly told police he had been living on South 25 th Street in Abilene for the past two years. But he was actually living in Odessa, working as cook at a barbecue restaurant.

Police made the discovery Jan. 18, the same day police found the body of a newborn baby in a trash can inside the South 25 th Street home. The baby was the daughter of Christopher's niece Amber Craker.

Amber and her boyfriend, Damian Cate, were indicted three weeks ago for murder. According to an autopsy, the infant was stabbed multiple times before it was tossed in the trash.

In April, Amber was deemed incompetent to stand trial and ordered to a state mental health facility in Vernon.

Thursday, a judge reduced Cate's bond from $300,000 to $100,000.

Cate and Amber Craker also face a charge of tampering with evidence with intent to impair a human corpse charge.
