Wylie intermediates continue hot streak into state tournament
ABILENE, TX - The Texas West State tournament is just days away, and the Wylie Intermediate team has its sights set on a state title.
This whole age group right here folks better start watchin' out," said head coach Damon Albus at practice on Tuesday. "Word is already out, this is and extremely talented athletic group of kids."
Dash Albus threw a no-hitter and hit a grand slam to take the Bulldogs to the Section 2 championship game over the weekend in Arlington, and then the youngest kid on the team -- Dante Cano, threw a shut-out game for the title with both allowing no-runs.
But it's a team effort for this bunch who have played together for years, and they'll look to continue that group effort as they battle Pecos in Thursday's opening round.
"Well we've all been playing baseball since, I don't know we were 9 or 8," said Dash Albus. "And we just are super comfortable with everybody."
"It's a lot of fun knowing that you have a bunch of best friends playing on your all star team. And you know if you make a mistake you pick them back up," added Riley Hood.
The Texas West State Tournament runs Thursday, July 14th through Wednesday July 20th.
