Young Eagles event takes children on plane rides
ABILENE, Texas - The sky was the limit for some lucky kids Saturday afternoon.
That's thanks to the local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association.
Children ages eight through 17 got the chance to fly with trained and licensed pilots for free.
It was all part of the Young Eagles event at the Abilene Regional Airport.
"If you could see the look on their faces when they come out to the airplane, they're a little unsure of it, and then see the look on their faces when they come back with that big grin, that's all the pay we need to do this," said Gary W. Potter, a pilot. "It's so much fun for us to see the kids enjoy this."
The Young Eagles give free flights to children every year to spark interest in aviation and to encourage participation within the organization.
