1 dead, more than a dozen rescued after flooding in Breckenridge
BRECKENRIDGE, Texas - Breckenridge police have confirmed one person is dead as a result of widespread flooding in the city. A man told KTXS his aunt was killed when her truck was swept away by flood waters. As of 9 a.m., the Breckenridge Fire Department had rescued 15-plus people from flooded homes. At one point, Oncore was reporting more than 2,000 customers affected by power outages. The Texas Department of Transportation says the following roads are closed: Highway 180 through Breckenridge and Highway 183 from the southern Breckenridge city limits to FM 2231. Do not attempt to drive across any roadway that is covered by water. Turn around, don't drown.
According to the Breckenridge American, the city is also under Stage 4 drought restrictions. The only water available is what is in the water tanks.
