Abilene man arrested on child porn charges was already on probation

Jacob James Kelly

One of the two roommates arrested Tuesday on child porn charges was already on probation.

According to court documents, Jacob James Kelly, 24, pleaded guilty in January to sexual assault of a child and was sentenced to 10 years of probation.

Kelly met a 16-year-old boy on Facebook in February 2017. They exchanged “normal messages” for the next few weeks.

Kelly’s messages then became “sexually suggestive” and he kept on asking when he and the teenage boy could get together.

The two met on March 11, 2017, when Kelley took the boy to his house, where they ended up having sex.

Police recovered text messages from Kelly’s phone where he admitted sending sexually suggestive messages and that he knew the victim was 16, but Kelly denied ever having sex with the teenage boy.

The Taylor County District Attorney’s Office filed a motion Friday to revoke Kelly’s probation.

Kelly is being held at the Taylor County Jail on $145,000 bond. He was arrested Tuesday and charged with possession of child pornography and possession of a firearm by a felon. His roommate, Wesley James, 32, was arrested for distribution of child pornography.

Police executed a search warrant on Tuesday at Kelly and James’ house on the 2000 block of Delwood Drive, where they found “numerous devices containing child pornography.”

Police said Kelly, who is a registered sex offender, also admitted to having sex with an unknown underage female.

James is out of jail on $45,000 bond.
