Ballinger's Jones announces his resignation

BALLINGER, TX - After just two seasons at the helm of Ballinger Bearcat football and athletics, David Jones announced on Thursday that he is stepping down.

Jones posted a two year record of 9-12, including two trips to the playoffs. The bearcats, however went 3-7 last year.

Prior to his brief stint in Ballinger, Jones was an assistant at 5a Plainview for two seasons before taking over the job left by Justin Wiley.

Ballinger, which is among the most successful programs in class 3A, with over 615 wins, is still looking for its first playoff victory since the 2007 season.

Jones is expected to hand in his official resignation sometime early next week, and the search for a new head coach and Athletic Director will begin at the next school board meeting.
