BROWN COUNTY, Texas - A fire on Thursday destroyed a home in Bangs, displacing a family of two.

An off-duty Brownwood fireman was driving on County Road 153 Thursday evening when he saw the fire and called dispatch, according to Fire Marshal Buddy Preston.

Preston said an 87-year-old woman and her 34-year-old grandson shared the home on 401 CR 153. They weren't inside the house at the time of the blaze.

The cause of the fire is being labeled as "undetermined," according to Preston. The home is a total loss and the homeowner claims to not have insurance.

Brownwood, Early, Bangs, Zephyr, Winchell, Brookesmith, Lake Brownwood Bridge, and Lake Dam fire departments responded to the scene.

The American Red Cross also helped the family with providing emergency needs.
