ABILENE, TX - On Tuesday, the Big Country saw several qualifiers to UIL state golf following impressive regional tournament performances.

1-4A (Girls)

Wylie freshman Maddi Olson continues to show why she may be the next big thing, taking home first place in the regional tournament with a two-day combined score of 141.

Olson outlasted Snyder's Courtney Velasquez who with a second place finish, qualifies her to her third-consecutive state tournament.

Both Wylie and Snyder teams finished 4th and 5th respectively, ending their chances at a state berth.

1-3A (Boys)

It was the Eastland and Merkel show, as the Mavericks and Badgers both qualified their boys teams to the state tournament.

Eastland finished second, while Merkel made big strides after day one, shaving 17 strokes to come home in the third and final transfer position.

The best finisher in the Big Country, came Eastland's Zane Brooks who came home second, one shot back of the champion, Brock's Garrett Leek. Merkel's Colton Hillburn, who was last year's state runner-up, shot a 71 on day 2 to finish 5th, helping the Merkel team rack up the points to advance.

2-2A (Boys)

Eula had one heck of a tournament on Tuesday, not only winning the boys team regional title, but sweeping the top two individualists.

The Pirates will go on to state, with regional champ Gunner Cauthen (147), and silver medalist Cole Watkins (161).
