BIG SPRING, Texas - The storm left his home a total loss.

"You know when you put it in perspective, possessions are tiny and I didn't expect to live through yesterday," said Blake Thomas, a man who survived Sunday's tornadoes near Big Spring.

We've all heard about the calm before the storm, but what about after?

Silence and the random clatter of people sifting through debris is all that could be heard on Cauble Road at Thomas' leveled home just west of Big Spring Monday afternoon.

Thomas, who shot video of the tornado after it destroyed his home, said he didn't have much time to think.

He just grabbed his dog Pearl and ran for the closet in his home.

Now that the sun is up and the magnitude of the situation has set in, Thomas remains remarkably optimistic.

"I was on the phone with my father the first time it hit," said Thomas. "I was telling him goodbye. I wasn't ever going to see him again. You know I didn't know what was going to happen, but the last thing on my mind was how many things I was going to have left."
