National Weather Service confirms tornado touchdown in Burkett
BURKETT, Texas - The National Weather Service of San Angelo confirmed that Thursday night's severe storms produced a tornado near the Coleman County town of Burkett.
According to the NWS, the EF-1 tornado touched down at 8:01 p.m. and crossed Hwy 206 near Burkett, moving close to six miles before dissipating at 8:08 p.m.
No injuries or fatalities were reported from the tornado, but areas along the path received minor damage. Several trees about one mile southwest of Burkett were snapped at the trunk, which gave the NWS researchers a basis for the maximum wind speed of about 95 mph.
In the city of Cross Plains, about 10 miles north of Burkett, straight-line winds from the same storm system damaged rooftops and business signs.
