Non-district finale's headline week 5 of Wilner's Weekly Watch

ABILENE, Texas - We're about to turn the calendar to October, which means week 5 of high school football across the Big Country landscape is beginning, or approaching district play. And this week ' s Wilner ' s Weekly Watch hones in on a couple final non-district treats.

Anson Tigers (2-2) at Roscoe Plowboys (2-1):

Out west in Roscoe, the Plowboys hosting Anson.

Both teams have had difficult non-district slates in 2017 but now with district on the horizon, this one is expected to be competitive between two class 2A area favorites to make deep playoff runs.

Jake Freeman hopes his Plowboys can come off its bye week strong on homecoming night, while Anson hopes to avenge a loss to Albany a week ago.

Eastland Mavericks (3-1) at Comanche Indians (3-1):

Next, another interclass showdown of talented and experience filled programs.

Eastland heads to a battle of 3-and 1 teams that are making strong cases as forces to beat in their respective districts.

James Morton's Mavericks couldn't hang with 3 rd ranked Wall last week, but have demonstrated dominance otherwise so far. While Comanche - who ' s pitched two shut-outs this year, eyes to reverse a 48-15 blowout loss to Eastland a year ago.

Albany Lions (4-0) at Cisco Loboes (3-1):

Finally, as we documented Tuesday, the re-match of Albany and Cisco - this time at the graveyard.

The Loboes stomped all over Albany in 2016, ending a 44-game home win streak for the Lions, but now Albany comes in firing on all cylinders and in even-better shape than a year ago - having yet to be truly tested.

Cisco also is picking up the pace after an early loss, eyeing a good end to non-district as both teams expect to be playing deep into December. For Albany, its third trip to state in four seasons.

Add Abilene High's district 3-6A opener at home against Haltom into the mix, and you've got yourself quite a mix of important ball games on week 5 .
