Second season starts with huge district openers

ABILENE, Texas - It's go time for high school football this week, as district play engulfs the entire state for 11-man teams. Cooper and Wylie both opening up league play joining AHS who's already in progress, but how about some Big County marquee match-ups?

Stamford (4-2) vs. Anson (4-2):

The battle for Jones County kicks-off district 4-2A DI, as Stamford travels to Anson.

The Bulldogs, after a slow start, are red-hot with Lonnie Applin and company finding its grove with a 4-2 record, and playing some of its best football of the season following a shut-out of Olney.

But Anson is ready to contend for another district title, and comes in motivated after back-to-back losses to Albany and Jim Ned before rebounding against Roscoe.

Keep this one in mind folks, in what could possibly be the deciding factor in a district title run between these two neighboring rivals.

Jim Ned (4-1) vs. Comanche (4-1):

In class 3A, a huge district opener for Jim Ned as the turnaround season continues for Jerod Womack's team as they visit Comanche.

Jim Ned, as we've documented is on quite the start, already surpassing last season's win total in now making a case as a sleeper pick for an upset in district 3-3A DI. But Comanche is making its own wave in the district, coming in as the preseason favorite to repeat last season's unbeaten district record.

It's Indians versus Indians -- should be a good one.

Knox City (5-1) vs. May (6-0):

No district contests yet in 1A, but boy it may as well feel like one down in Brown County as a clash of 1A DI studs in Knox City and May come to Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers enter Friday winners of 17-straight regular season contests and will hope that when the clock strikes zero, they'll make it 18.

However, the Greyhounds are hoping to spoil that party on the road, taking in a talented group that has put opponents away early as their non-district slate comes into the later stages.

With no district implications, the winner in this game - takes home a ton of momentum.

Boy, what a big start to the "second season" coming up on Friday.
