Stamford hosts pep rally for state tournament-bound baseball team

Stamford, TX - Stamford baseball, which is also state-bound this week, was honored Monday night with their first pep rally. This is not, however, the first time the Bulldogs are headed to Austin and the UIL State Championships. Jeremy West's team is making its 5th trip to state in the last 7 years with the last time being 2 years ago. Stamford hits the road Tuesday morning for Round Rock, where they'll face Beckville at 9 a.m. in Wednesday's semifinal at Dell Diamond. This is a team who truly believes in themselves as they go for it all on Wednesday.

"The whole team, we've been waiting a long time to do this and now it's finally here," said junior pitcher Wesley Gonzales. "It's bittersweet, but we're ready and we've been waiting a long time." Head coach Jeremy West added, "Let's go down there and try to win a game or two you know, and take one game at a time," he said.

"We have to focus our attention because everybody down there is going to be really good and everybody is going to be solid, but hey, if we play a good game, why not? Let's give ourselves a chance to win too."
