Woman, 90, killed in 2-vehicle Callahan County crash
CALLAHAN COUNTY, Texas - A 90-year-old Houston woman died as a result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash Monday on FM 18, 3.5 miles west of Clyde in Callahan County.
Maria Segrest, a passenger in one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Her body was taken to Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass.
No others in the crash were injured, a DPS new release said Wednesday.
DPS says a vehicle driven by Neri Vasquez Schoonover, 62, of San Antonio, failed to yield the right-of-way at a "stop intersection" at FM 18 and FM 603 in Callahan County.
According to DPS, Segrest was a passenger in Schoonover's vehicle, which while traveling south on FM 603 stopped at the stop sign, but pulled into the path of a 2007 Suzuki XLT Colt driven by a 32-year-old Clyde woman.
Passengers in the second vehicle included a 35-year-old man and 14-year-old and 12-year-old boys. All were wearing seat belts.
The road was dry at the time of the crash, DPS said.
