3 killed in 2 Brown County crashes

BROWN COUNTY, Texas - Three people were killed in two Brown County crashes Monday night.

Two died and others were taken to the hospital following a head-on collision involving two trucks about 8 p.m. Monday on US 84/183 south of Brownwood. One of those taken to the hospital was bull riding superstar J.W. Harris.

In addition, the Texas Department of Public Safety is reporting a single-vehicle rollover crash occurred on CR 213. The driver was ejected and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A DPS news release didn't say what time the second crash occurred.

While details were initially slim in the CR 213 accident, DPS troopers on scene at the US 84/183 accident said a white pickup truck was driving on Highway 183 southeast of Early when it crossed over into an oncoming lane.

Harris was with his wife and two children in a black heavy-duty pickup truck when the white truck traveling in the opposite director crossed over into his lane, and the two collided head-on.

The two occupants of the white pickup truck were killed, the trooper said. Their identities have not been released yet, but they were reportedly from Mills County.

Troopers said Harris and his family suffered non-life threatening injuries. They were all taken to Brownwood Regional Medical Center and released Tuesday morning.

DPS spokesman Frederick Biddle said additional details on the two crashes will be provided as they become available.
